I asked Glenn this one a while back but can't find his reply lost in black hole! Where does the Satin Black start and finish on the sills? also does it stop at the wing? or continue?

Its up to the bottom of the sill trims and across to the wheel arch edges - but it depended on where the Rover sill painter felt like putting on the day

Thanks Phil so if I take Glenn's sill trim measurements and paint a line accross the bottom of the wing and sill.

Yes I think that will do it - what colour is your car?
The black does not really show up much with Admiralty Blue on mine

That's new to me regarding the black line finishing across the front wing. I thought it was only the sill that was painted black. The Duchess still had original sills and the black paint was not on the lower part of the front wing.

To paint or not to paint that is the question? if your old Dutchess was standard Glenn I would have thought that would be a good pattern to go by? unless there are a few origional variations? it would be interesting to know what other members have got (done)

Would it be possible for one of the local members / contributors to visit Gaydon and take some detail photos of the sills on the two P5Bs in their collection to help clarify the questions on trim positions and paint break lines?
I suggest this in the hope that the "Harold Wilson" and "HRH" cars are in original condition and ought therefore to be good reference pointers.

Good suggestion p5tgc!? a bit more input there are 2 small pieces of trim on the front wing a continuation of the sill trim if these are fitted it would make sense to continue the Satin Black! any body got the small trims I have one drivers side. The picture at the top of the site shows these.

??Fairly certain that the bottom of the wings are black - Gaydon not much use as I understood that these P5B's have been "touched up" George Parker may have the answer?? With Rover/and then BL no consistency is likely anyway - look at the positioning of the strips anyway What small trims - the sill strip is one piece right across to the wing edge (almost) see my pictures

I have just looked at a contemporary advet for a 1967 Coupe - Burnt Grey over Silver Birch parked by a lake? with a young lady in a green frock.
This shows quite clearly the black going right across the bottom of the front wing

Well there you go. I suppose it makes sense. Many thanks for that Phil.

Phil the old 68 coupe I have for spares (which is rapidly dissapearing) has a short sill trim from the sill join to the front wing edge! in other words this sill trim was in two pieces or was it cut by the person who at some time changed the sills and molded the cut edge to look the part?

As far I know they were always one piece and the parts manual confirms this.
Its too young to be a pre-production so it must have been modified at sometime.
Many, many replacement sills/wings have been wrongly or poorly fitted in the past and the wing bottom does not line up properly with the sill and or a different profile.
Some period oversills were available once which are a terrible shape - nothing like the original or the ones Wadhams has supplied for years
Do you want some proper sill trims?

I have had a good look at the small trim!! it has been rolled over at the edge (very well) to probably "thinking about it" to make good the wing bottom after fitting new sills and the old sill trims being the "normal" dented or screwed or probably the fitter could not be bothered to get new clips!! Glenn is saving me a new set Phil.
