Now that I am coming to the end of all the bits and pieces which came with the car from the last owner, I'm a bit mystified by this piece which looks to be original panel having mitred black covering on what looks like a hardboard. It was several holes cut in it and well as some notchings. prntscr.com/fvm7d1It look to me that it lives on the front face behind the bulkhead and over the low parcel shelf. Does anyone who has ever changed this panel have a template? Perhaps a Millboard would do the trick?

Eric I think you mean the cover that goes under the dash and is held in with clips and it is folded at the back to hide the wiring? It is the same sort of stuff that the old suitcases were made of covered in Black Felt you really need one to copy! personally I think Mill Board will be far too stiff to fold at 90 degrees it will just break you may have to do a cloth hinge of some sort?
There is one at the driver side as well.

wow thanks - yes that appears to be the panel in question. The JRW illustrated one is double the size of the specimen i have so mine has been hacked somewhat - not surprising i couldn't work it out. JRW doesn't show any clips. The illustration I loaded as a photo was over-size for the forum purposes but just a screen shot link seemed to get over that. Thanks to you and John also.

From the JRW illustration my panel has been molested somewhat! prntscr.com/fwtzq9 No reference in JRW for any clips tho? the radio will need to be removed first. The presence of holes in the panel suggest some cables will need to be pass through them - makes a big job?

Hi I believe there are 8 clips holding in the two under dash panels.
Does anyone know or have a photo they can share of how where on the panel it's clipped to the dash?

There are holes in the panel along its front edge to receive the clips

As Phil says, then they are pushed onto the lower facia frame member, towards you sitting in the car.
