Had a very nice holiday by making a tour along the Rhine and Moselle in Germany and France with my MGB V8. First took the "Autobahn" to pass the industrial area ('Ruhrgebiet"). As there are roads without a speed limit and there was not much traffic, i couldn't resist flooring the MG up to 200 km/hr. The car has slightly stiffer springs and Koni's and the road holding is extremely good a high speeds. Although the brakes are slightly upgraded to MGB GT V8 spec, these are no match for todays brakes so i had to be careful. Soon after the "Ruhrgebiet" we took B roads along the Moselle which was nice and great fun. Not much traffic, almost no sleeping policemen it was a pleasure to drive. In Holland there are not many of these roads with not much traffic Visited some castles. The wetter was good, friendly people and good food. The car performed very well. Its such a nice car for touring and due to the RV8, mountains are no problems. Peter

A great car for roads like that; did you convert it yourself? The V8 wheels look good and suit the car.

An excellent article, thanks for the link; it's surprising what a difference polished the inlet manifold and different air filters make.
You must be very pleased with the transformation from the original USA specification car. That looks like a 1980/81 SD1 if I'm not mistaken (different front panel with opening between headlights).
A Rover V8 makes for a great sports car, doesn't it, hence why I still have my TVR after 15 years.
I think we can be forgiven for mentioning MGs and TVRs on a classic Rover forum, especially as you provide regular updates on your P5B.

Hi Tony,
I guess a TVR with a Rover V8 is an identical concept as the MGB with V8: a light weight car with a V8. I really like this concept. My MG is fast but not extremely fast so it is still controllable. I fitted a mild road camshaft with a wide torque range which makes the car incredible smooth to drive.I kept the SU which also doesn't make it a fast accelerating car in comparison with a Holley. I guess the MG has the advantage that parts are easy to get at low prices. I would be interested to see some pictures of your TVR. Does it have the 3.5 or a larger engine and also the LT77?

No, it's not the 3.5, it's a later fuel-injected 4.0 which TVR then altered slightly, ie higher compression, gas flowed, different cam etc. etc.. The earlier ones did have the Rover gearbox but mine has the later BW T5 gearbox.
I agree with you, a very similar concept to your MG, which Rover obviously recognised later on when they introduced their own revised roadster version, the MG RV8. However, I prefer the 'classic' look of yours.
I'll have to see how to post a picture as my photos exceed the limit for attachments and I'm not sure how things work now that photobucket have changed things.

hi Tony,
Your TVR has a bit more HP with the 4.0l and the FI. I had plans to convert my MGB to FI and have a RR FI system laying on the shelf for many years but decided i will stick to the SU's. I think the current HP is enough and i like the simplicity of the SU and these have been very reliable. It does 2,5-3000km/year so the improvement in mpg with FI is not really an issue.
I now use "Postimanges" for posting pictures on the forum.
