Pertronix is one of the popular points ignition replacement modules that converts your traditional distributor into electronic ignition. There are modules for just about anything including the Lucas 35D8 - 41176F used in the P5B. However, I have learned that there two different types for the 35D8 and to my surprise one of them is of a pretty bad design. The good one is LU-183. It's like any other Pertronix I have seen. Simply remove the points and condenser and fit the ignition module and plastic embedded signal magnets on the shaft. The timing is within one degree. The bad one is LU-181A. In this type the whole base plate is replaced, which is a more comprehensive operation. The rotation guide between the two plates is really sloppy and the whole thing is misaligned with the rotor so it is between two cylinders when it fires. Unfortunately they no longer make the LU-183 but there seems to be plenty "out there" when you google it. Jens.

Don't buy anymore pertronix modules Jens...there are plenty of similar clone modules on the market that are a lot cheaper. If the module actually works and fires the ignition, why not just reposition it's mounting holes or simply rotate the distributor until it fires where you want it to...it can't be that difficult! Nil desperandum.
