Hi folks,
After learning some MIG welding and steelworking skills, I've removed about all the rust I can see in my P5B. I'm starting to think about the respray and whether or not I should assemble the wings with the beading strips in place (by beading I mean the rounded edge strips that run along the wing joins), or spray them seperately ?
All my wings are off the car at the moment however I'm planning to re-assemble them onto the car to give them some rigidity whilst sanding, but I'm worried that if I also assemble the beading and then respray that the paint will fill the gap between the beading and the wing like a fillet weld and wont look right.
Any tips appreciated, Cheers, Taz

They are meant to be sprayed with the beading on but so as not to fill in the gaps very much. This is OK with cellulose/Acrylic but with 2 pack it is so heavy it does fill all the gaps in. This hlods for a long time before it cracks letting in water and corrosion.
The think the best way is to spray body and wings separately, refit properly when dry and hard with Dum/Dum mastic and then flat-off and spray the whole lot again.
This will give amirror finish.
Not may body shops will go to the trouble of this though

Hello Taz I had miine resprayed seperately.Firstly you can start reassembly of car without damaging panels and also if your wings get damaged or need work you can remove them without damaging paint on body/bead. As Phil says just ensure the joint is sealed.

Its that black gunge that Rover spread around around everywhere which after 30 years or so goes rock hard and falls off. Its similar to the Bittac underseal which also falls off but this also contains asbestos!

Mine was painted 2 pack and the beading(s) were painted seperatley before the rear wings were bolted back into position.
