Yet another dilema I have seen two origional Coupes one with the roof coach lines 1/2" from the gutter line and the other was 1" is this because Bill did one and Fred did the other? those of you with Coupes if you wouldn't mind having a measure for me please!

Where are the wise ones I just need conformation before I get my brush out I measured the template on the 1995 article but we all know what can happen when you download and print things alter in size.

John
Line weights/distances vary from car to car, so as long as you use the template as a guide, you should be OK - the original article was A5 in size, not A4. Just print out the sheet and cut along the line weights so they are on the edge of the sheet - ths will gve you greater accuracy.
The original lines were applied freehand - hence no exact measurements HTH

OK David thanks I will go for 5/32" line A and line B measure "almost" the same on the sheet line B being a cats whisker narrower plus you get a blurred edge on the print.

I've just checked on my spare wings, and the coach lines are in fact 1/8" wide, and they are original. I have also checked on my saloon sitting outside and again these are original, and they too are 1/8" wide. If you go too wide it is very noticeable.

I agree - they are meant to be thin as these are easier to hand paint as they were originally

Thanks Phil and John just a well I waited that is why I queried measuring the lines on the 1995 P5 Owners Club article they were wider, I hope you mean hand paint with a bit of help from line tape Phil! my hand is not steady enough! any brave guys out there who would do it freehand???

They were hand painted in the factory without any guides - there is a special tool that can be had from Frosts etc. This works similar to a ball point pen - you can also buy magnetic guides

I had mine done last week. He used the books as a guide and I gave him the measurements from the Duchess. I think the coach lines were 5mm thick and the measurement from the inside edge of the roof gutter/roof (using at thin plastic ruler) was 15-16mm. Anyway they have been hand painted and it looks great to me. ;D

I am getting more and more confused I think I will stick to 1/8"for the line weight! the measurement from the rain channelling to the base of the coachline in the article is 30mm does that sound right to those who have an origional roof!

The definitive answer ;D Dave Green has a barn found Coupe from the bottom of the rain channel to the bottom of the line is 28mm and the line is 4mm in width I will follow the November 1995 Club Mag for all the other dimensions.

This fine weather I do not look at the forum very often, so have just seen this thread.
The coachline on the roof is 5/32" thick. At tne front it is 22mm above the rain channel but by the rear quarter light it is 24mm.
As they were done freehand they will vary.
If I was clever I would take photos and put them on the site, but I am not so I can't !
If you come to the national you can have a look.
I have heard of a tool for doing them which apparantly is very good. Without a tool I would mask up carefully and then spray, using only sufficient paint to get a solid colour to reduce the line left after removal of the tape which hopefully could then be lost with careful polishing with T cut.

I suppose there are Signwriters who could do the coach line free-hand Must be some in the Yellow Pages. Adrian

I used to be a signwriter but not being in the game for a long while my hands a little shakey, we used to get commisioned to re do the lines on rollers etc, its a skilled job and we used to charge a £100 a side including the hub caps. Big Kev.
