Hello everyone
After a 5 year break from here I return as a P5 owner at long last!
The information in this forum was invaluable and helped me select (hopefully) the right car?
I wanted a P5 saloon rather than a P5B which everyone apparently wants but I am strange.
I shall attach pics later but its a blue manual with overdrive mk2. No doubt previous owners will be on here?
Picked it up on Sunday and drove it home in the dark 260miles on a flat battery and loose fanbelt , only discovering this when I got home, so a baptism of fire however it was a lovely ship to sail.
I have a few questions which I would like some help with please but will post seperately.
Thank you
Stan

Congratulations Stan, must be a nice feeling to bring your new purchase home. I've never driven a P5 that far in one go, so you must have had plenty of time to get acquainted I hope you get lots of pleasure out of it. As for being weird and buying a saloon, never mind nobodys perfect, you can upgrade to a coupe next time hehe

As for being weird and buying a saloon, never mind nobodys perfect, you can upgrade to a coupe next time hehe Haha thanks mate. i cant get a coupe my victorian top hat wont fit in the car and the handlebar mustache would spoil the headlining! Not really .... I had a good feel about this car, but still took the shine off worrying if it would start again but fortunately it did. The annoying thing though as tyres are lower than original profile the speedo is roughly 10mph faster than it really is so had the foresight to install a 'speedo' app on my phone so I could see real speed on the way home. There must be a small gearbox thingy that you can buy ? Like kph to mph when you buy a jap import? As for pleasure yes I love it so far, its more refined than I expected and very quiet. I am sure its not as fast as a V8 but its no slouch. I always wanted a P5 or P5B but never got round to it however my mum passed away this year and I realised it was time to stop putting things off so got one to enjoy while I can, a little bitter sweet really but such is life.

Welcome back Stan; and congratulations. I've sometimes wondered what happened to you. Hi mate thank you. Unfortunately mum was admitted to hospital so foolish things like classic car toys dropped off the radar for a few years, family more important.

I can empathise there Stan. I was in a similar situation at around the same time; only in my case it was my father. Everything else takes a back seat for quite awhile, doesn't it.

Yes it does its not easy looking after parents and your own children in between whilst holding a job down, but the reason I still mess with these old cars, its a good way to switch off and recharge, although I only seem to get time in the evenings in the dark, rain and cold!
