Does anyone know if any P5s left the factory without any stainless side mouldings / trims? I have been sorting through my spares pile and I have found a P5 rear wing that has no trace of ever having the trims. No rivet holes and no sign of them being filled. It is clearly a VERY old wing but it is in very good condition.

I never seen a wing without SS trim. It could be a wing supplied by the parts department. Some time ago i bought a NOS rear door and this didn't have holes for fitting the trim

Wings and doors were never supplied pre drilled for obvious reasons. The strange thing is that this wing seems to have been on a car at some time. It is caked in underseal and you can see where the bolts (& washers) have been tightened. Oddly, the paint seems to be grey primer so perhaps it was a replacement panel that never got drilled.

It could be that someone tried to fit it to the car but that it didn't fit properly and he gave up. I have a NOS front wing that fitted so poorly that i repaired the original one. There are rumors that poor fitting panels were removed from the production line and send to the spares department to be sold
