As soon as the uTube video started i checked the MoT status on line from the registration number - www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/ - a few alarm bells. This feedback.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=transeuro1995&ftab=FeedbackAsSeller&searchInterval=30 doesn't appear to indicate as collector/restorer of Daimler classic cars. Did the advertiser own the car or have instructions from the owner to sell? www.mycarcheck.com/. You can download a sales agreement form here to complete or require the seller to complete - might be evidential. Is it a library photograph? It is shown on Google images! Google the address - is it a domestic property or does it appear to be a business? Google will be more inclined to assist had the buyer used Paypal but even so they will have an interest in regulating or removing sellers (*although I note Ebay says the seller's record is 100% satisfactory - just one sale?) Who would make a commitment to buy on-line sight unseen without some research first. I wouldn't even consider buying a used car from a Seller who hadn't owned it for at least two years. The video might be libellous if the statements alleged therein are wrong!

Just skipped through it - far too long ! Why would he buy a 50 year old car unseen. He would be protected by the Sale of Goods act, which, I think, covers a 'distance' purchase for 30 days. My brother bought a car a few years ago without seeing it from a dealer, when it arrived he found that it had had a major repair. He rejected it and the dealer had to take it back.

Just think next May you don't have the privilege of checking MOT's!! or needing one!! it could just be a case of "caveat emptor" or if you have any sense take someone with you who knows his stuff or pay out for an inspection by one of the motoring services if the garage or seller is an honest person he should do that at his/her/their expense if not "caveat emptor" for sure

Buying a car unseen from someone you don't know is a bit unusual and although these Daimlers aren't very expensive cars, you cannot expect it to be a very good car at GBP 13.000.

especially allegedly valued at £18,000+ and an asking price of £14,400 and having a £13,500 accepted so fast you must expect to need to use a spanner or screwdriver at some point.

As far as i could see, the car didn't look that bad and a lot of work was done (new headlining, renovated interior, paint job, fair chrome). It also started very well and didn't run to bad. If you can do the welding yourself and solving some other issue's, then it could be a usable fairly good looking car.

I'm with you Peter. I imagine if he spent as much time and energy carefully appraising the vehicle as he did into making the somnabulistic, droning videos he would have negotiated a better deal or passed up on the purchase!

It's an unfortunate situation Richard and I certainly don't wish him any ill...but really, who lays out that much money without actually inspecting the vehicle, driving it, prodding it, etc, or perhaps having a knowledgeable dispassionate 3rd party check it over. It certainly looks well presented in his youtube videos.

Vince & Peter. Rather surprised at your comments! The MOT history and the subsequent appraisal strongly indicate that the car is as rotten as a pear and was tarted up for a quick sale. I do believe that these Jags rust even more than the P5 and have less structural reserve. I am not sure if it was a quick tart up as the headlining was replaced and the dashboard top, a lot of chroming was done. as was the leather renovated. It also had nice wire wheels. I am not so impressed by MOT history in general as the rust issue doesn't say much about how large the area is which is involved. A rather small hole on the right place could be enough for a MOT fail. Also the brake problems don't say much. And some ball joint play is not a big or expensive problem as is a non functional wiper motor Doing some or more welding is for a lot of people easier to do and cheaper then a paint job or re chroming. Car adverts in general give a positive description of the state and you are not buying a fully restored Daimler V8 for GBP 13.000,-. If its to good to be true, it mostly isn't. Peter
