Hi if anyone has a 4.6 engine fitted to their P5b but managed to retain the look of the original engine, could you get in contact please? I'm looking to complete mine but I would like to confirm what original parts can be reused ie oil pickup, timing cover, pulleys etc. I'd like it to look just like the original engine. I also need to buy a cam kit etc and I'm not sure which style of cam to get if using the early front covers etc... These are the questions I need to answer! Thanks Roy

Hi Roy,
I have fitted a 4.6 with an EFI camshaft from the 3.9 for more lowdown torque. From memory the only difference is the length of the crankshaft for which you require a spacer available I think from RPI or similar...
Also I fitted this motor to a ZF4HP22 and I seem to remember having to remove some lugs or similar at the gearbox end of the crank. Sorry I can’t be more specific but it’s a while since I carried out this work.
One other thing - my block was not pre drilled for the windage plate in the sump so this had to be done.
I had concerns the longer piston throw might have caused fouling on the plate and/or the sump but this was not the case.
I’m pretty sure everything else was standard and just swapped over.
Good luck - it’s a nice conversion.
Owen.

Thanks Owen, if you manage to think of any other issues you had to overcome I'd be grateful to hear. My engine is currently stripped and I'd like to get it machined and cleaned up before buying the relevant cam kits and parts ready to swap my 3.5 out and plant the 4.6 straight back in. That's the plan anyway!
Anyone else done the conversion?
