Hi. Currently in the process of rebuilding a bottom ball joint using a new brass plug and plastic/nylon bushes from JRW. My questions are regarding the slightly dished steel washer that sits between the brass plug and the lower bush. Should this washer always be installed? Does it act as a spring to maintain pressure on the lower bush or is it only required as a packer for some ball joint assemblies that cannot be correctly adjusted without it? The new lower bush on its own fits perfectly inside the brass plug but if the steel washer is added the bush no longer fits well and looks wrong. Also there is no means of location for the washer so in theory it could slide out of centre as it's diameter is much less than the brass housing or bush. The ball joint assembly is currently assembled without the washer, it has adjusted up well with no play and good loading. Your comments are welcomed. Hi all I have exactly the same question as Rover Rookie - why is the washer installed between the nylon bush and brass plug? Is it a botched repair for a worn joint or is it supposed to be there? I notice RR never got a reply as he replaced the bits anyway! Thanks Steve
