I'm finishing the re-wiring of my car, and I can't understand how the two bulbs that fit in the back on the speedometer and tachometer (Coupe) for illumination are earthed? The bulb holders just have a positive feed and fit in the back of the instruments, but the instruments themselves aren't earthed, so where does the earth feed come from?
I could run an earth to each of the mounting screws, but the loom doesn't have those and I don't recall these being there when I removed the old loom? The panel lights all worked, so they must have been getting an earth from somewhere.
Anyone have any ideas?

Its a good thought, but it doesn't explain the tachometer earth - the two instruments aren't electrically connected.

There should be Black wires on terminals/tabs under the thumb screws on the brackets holding the speedo rev counter Richard

Ah, thanks John. My car must have been missing these since I bought it, but it makes sense.

Hi Richard I am trying to sort out a friends wiring after his car has been in a restores for a long time and both the Speedo and the Tach have a double black wire on the bracket under the thumb screws.

Thanks John. I've now created something similar for mine.
