Ah...you were obviously a hippy at some point Stan. It's very nice and certainly makes a statement. (And yes...white wall tyres seem to be your thing. ) I don't suppose you were ever into Cheech and Chong? "Up in Smoke" Click on link below. m.youtube.com/watch?v=HuYeQi4wB_k

Never heard of those too? Whitwalls just thought they set the tyres off a bit otherwise you have a high profile lump of rubber doughnut with small wheels.

If you remember any of the 60s Stan...Cheech and Chong were icons of the hippy and counter culture. Both are actually very clever men and keen observers of the time.
As an aside, my Dad bought a new VW beetle in 1962...as a child I would fall asleep in the compartment behind the rear seat returning home from visits to relatives and friends. There was usually a pall of cigarette smoke in the cabin! He even forded a flooded road on an interstate trip in the Veedub. I recall the water coming halfway up the doors on the outside. Four of us in the car...thinking about it today, it was a truly dumb move...we could have easily been swept down the floodway trapped inside. There was a lot of advertising by VW at the time with stunts like this illustrating how well the cars were constructed and sealed.

Haha its funny now thinking about the stuff we did and how the 'over the top in some cases' Health and Safety brigade are today! Sheesh if you were in the back over there - you must have been deaf and boiled, its always hot due to engine below and greenhouse window above! VW were very well insulated I used to have to open the window slightly to close the door, and also the times I was frozen out in winter as the door seal was so fat it would weld itself to the body! Happy days, yet its my favourite car and I still have my second ever car (beetle of course) in the garage waiting patiently for its restoration. Still contains air in the tyres from 1986 when I purchased it. I purchased a new set of alloys and the tyres were brand new Michellin that cost more than what I paid for the car. The air never leaked once, the alloys could do with a repaint now.... I stayed in a hotel in Venice a few years ago. The shower cubicle in the bathroom had the mains fuse box on the wall in the shower!!!! You cant make stuff like that up. From my earlier comments , my parents let me play with record players that I took apart and out of cases , running them on mains on the living room carpet, age 8! Imagine anyone doing that today? But I am still here and take safety seriously especially with my family and especially in old cars, like I am sure you do. Common sense is king.
