Hi All, I am getting very close to having my car on the road and I am re-fitting the interior. I have a set of Wadhams Carpets and wanted to know the correct way to fit them. I realise some cutting may be involved but as a starting point, does the bound over edge go under the gearbox tunnel console or butt up to the rear cigarette lighter box?
Also, I am fitting a nos set of Irwin inertia reel seatbelt with the large buckle attached to the tunnel via a fabric strap. It has a strange cut out on the metal mounting piece and I was wondering how this should be bolted to the tunnel as the instructions are far from clear.
All suggestions would be gratefully received.
Dave

Hi Dave, I think the bound edge of the tunnel carpet goes at the rear - the front goes under the P5B centre console.
On my P5B I had problems at the rear of the tunnel, as the tunnel suddenly gets wider towards the rear seat, and I couldn't get the carpet to 'stretch' over the wider part without wrinkling. One suggestion I heard (after fitting mine) was to use padding to make the transition to the wider part of the tunnel more gradual, so the carpet doesn't wrinkle. Not sure if this is a common to all P5's or whether the tunnel shape changed at some point - mine is an early P5B Coupe (1968).
I don't know about the seatbelt issue I'm afraid, as I fitted modern inertia seatbelts.

Many thanks Richard. I have wrestled it into place as best I can with a fair amount of cutting. A difficult shaped transmission tunnel doesn't help,
