Hi whilst fitting the new LED lights I decided to clean up the earth connections on the inner wings for the headlights/sidelights.
Unfortunately one broke off and although I have managed to bend over the remains for now, I really need a new one.
All I can find is some landrover supplies 85p plus vat plus Β£5 postage!! Are they for real? These don't appear on fleabay for some reason neither on the usual suspects websites?
Any ideas where to get them or should I just make one?
Thanks.

So buy a bunch of oil filters or other to make the postage worthwhile.

Gee Stan...simply solder a small loop on the end of the earth/ground wire and attach it to the inner wing with a self-tapper.

Yes sir but Β£4.80 plus postage plus second mortgage, why aren't they cheap as bullet connectors? Maybe you dont need to replace them so often? If i make some from platinum they wont rust and it can be a selling point 1965 mk2 Rover P5 fully restored complete with platinum earth connections Β£40k!!! ππ

Yes exactly Ken look at the price its ridiculous! This small single parts higher price game that has crept up on us over the past few years is a rip off. Sorry getting off my high horse... π

I use Autosparks. Although their earth connectors are the same price the post is a bit cheaper.

How difficult would it be ( ) to cut a thin strip of sheetmetal and bend/manipulate the ends over a nail of the appropiate OD to create a replica of the eathing connector!

I know got a business idea, I will make a few up sell them for Β£3 and clean up! You know for the 5 old British classics that still need them.π

The steel is not MS Stan it is a Spring steel so not that easy I know hence why it broke so readily when I tried to tighten it up a little. Still when I start mass producing them for Β£3 in platinum ....πππ Sorry for the smiley faces I am not 14 years old, but you have to keep up with the kids dont you. π Well might as well get them from mister land rover and just buy ebough to offset the excessive postage cost, Β£5 for a teeny bit of spring steel? Presume it will arrive by the Queens personal courier in a Rolls and handed to me on a silver platter accompanied by light snacks and champagne?

Email this pic: To these people: www.jcrsupplies.co.uk/Explain what you need and see if they can help you out. They are a proper old-school supplier. Although TBH, because of that, I'd just phone them first and I'd be surprised if they even needed the pic.

Gee Stan...simply solder a small loop on the end of the earth/ground wire and attach it to the inner wing with a self-tapper. A much neater idea. That's what I would do to each earth and then attach the whole bundle with a self-tapper using the existing hole. PS, I think we all get your point about the cost. I am just messing Sir! π Like I said I do like things done properly on my cars but I do get fed up being held to ransom but then I choose to drive an old car. Anyway didnt meant for this thread to get so long just surprised I couldn't find such a simple part for reasonable cost?

We had a fab one , used to be an old dealer, Rover, Wolseley, Morris, MG, Austin the works. They had the old lamp shade globes with the manufactures names on, the swines wouldn't sell them to me even when they closed up. They kept my Wolseley on the road for peanuts and just knew every part no books ot computers required. You know the sort of place cigarette end permanently in corner of mouth, looked a bit of a mess inside, sawdust on the floor.

I made new earth points on the inner wings for the lights, etc with (dare I say?) M6 X 25 bolts and a couple of nuts. Clean the area down to bare metal, drill a 6.5mm hole and fit the bolt from the outside. Fasten down with washers and nut. Make up 2 or 3 short leads with a male bullet connector soldered on one end and an eyelet soldered on the other. Fasten the eyelets onto the bolt with another nut and washers. You now have several earth points, especially if you use double female connectors. With the added bonus that there's no need to undo the fastener to the body every time like you would if you used a self tapper to earth a bunch of wires.

The primary concern with any electrical connection is to maintain clean, low resistance contact between the connections whether they be a ground/earth wire or a power supply (12v). This is even more critical when fitting modern electrical accessories as often the output voltages are much lower (1.5v - 5v). As an aside even a poorly soldered joint can lead to all sorts of aggravating behaviour down the track! Although OEM...I'm not a big fan of 1950's - 60s electrical connectors....especially the ground connectors. It's always worthwhile checking these connections with a digital multimeter for good continuity.

Strange, but I just noticed that Autosparks sells one ground connector for Β£4.54, but a pack of 10 goes for Β£3.02-that seems a bit more reasonable.
