I have a 1966 3.0 MKIII for sale.
One question that a potential buyer asked is; has the car had a dashboard change as the clock is in the centre of the dash (similar to a MKII).
Another person has told me that the dash up date did not happen until 1967. The car is definitely a MKIII as it has the individual rear seats.
Does anybody know the correct story as to when the dashboards were updated?
All and any help is much appreciated. Thanks

The parts book shows the MK3 had the centre clock and this didn't change until the P5b in 1967

Mk3 Owners Instruction Manual and early advert literature show it at the corner P5B style. It's something I have never looked at much as I prefer Mk2's and P5B's

Having a google there are pics of MK3's with the clock in both locations so perhaps? in the transition from Mk3 to the P5b there is a period when the clock was standardised in the corner?

The 1966 model year Mk3's were different from the 1967 model year later ones could well have had the side clock - Rover often used what was available in stock

Mine is a 1966 Mk3. Here's the dash...note the position of the clock. I'd like it in the middle though as I prefer the aesthetics.

MK 111s had the clock on left, as P5B. Introduced late 1965 IIRC for '66 model year. It was part of interior update, auto gearbox change etc.. The only changes for '67 model year were colour options.
However, MK 11 was still listed and available during 1966, so for a while both MK 111 and MK 11 were available at the same time

The earlier P5 (clock-in-the-middle) dash bar is of a completely different construction to the later P5B dash bar (clock-in-the-corner.) The P5B is moulded (hot PVC and polyfoam applied by a pressing machine in a formed mould) whereas the clock-in-the-middle earlier ones were trimmed in a traditional manner in ambla and because of this the fresh air vents are not directly on the dash bar but sitting on extra plastic plinths as it would be virtually impossible to make the ambla make the complicated turns required round the vents area. But all fixing points are the same so they are interchangeable.
