what chainwheel is this? It is not what it is supposed to be, as in a part for a 3 litre Mk2B.

Hi, That is the camshaft chainwheel you can use it on the Mk3 as well, I have one on my Mk3.

It certainly is not for a MkIIb. The chainwheel for a MkIIb is removeable from its central boss, and secured by 3 bolts.

The chainwheel for a MkIIb is removeable from its central boss, and secured by 3 bolts. You can fit it to any, you remove the central boss and and fit the chainwheel complete. I had to do it to my MK3 as a new chainwheel is unavailable. Lucky JRW had one £15!
