Hallo from Italy
I’m a long time enthusiast/collector and among others in the past I already owned a P5b Coupe that then I sold many years ago.
Just recently I found another example of P5b Coupe in LHD with its original 1969 “MI” (for Milano) period licence plates and so I bought it straight away, also because if LHD P5bs are quite rare, in Italy they are even rarer and finding one of them sold originally here still fitted with the original plates is almost impossible. The car had few owners, and most importantly the bodywork is sound. I checked the original color asking an Heritage Certificate, where it is written it was built in Arden Green also if the Silver Birch top is not specified. I’m not sure if the shade of green in which the car is currently painted is the correct one, it will be great to know the paint code to check if it is correct. The interior had the seats redone in the correct pattern by the previous owner and it looks nice but the contrast between the almost new-looking seats and the rest of the originall interior like the panels etc. is creating a bit of a contrast I would like to correct (still don’t know how!). The car was quite neatly fitted from new with an air conditioning system that by the way do works quite well, but I believe (as written in the excellent P5 & P5b book from J.Taylor) that only very few P5bs had the air conditioning fitted from new so I believe mine is an aftermarket system fitted by the italian importer at the time. I’m not very expert but I do believe there had been also few modifications to the engine too as an electric fuel pump is fitted, and from some period factory engine bay pictures I saw, my carburettors looks different and a manual choke is fitted too. Looking forward in posting some pics of the engine and about the car in general to have the opinion of the Club experts on the original/non original things and suggestions on the eventual rectifications that needs to be done. All in all I’m very happy to have back in my garage a P5b and I look forward in enjoyining it!
Kind regards.
Mauro
