Nice mod George. Did you resolve the fitting issue with your new hose with JRW or did he just give the usual reply " weve been selling them for 30 years with no bother " bad attitude answer?? LOL

Made up a bracket so that the foam sleve that covers the join in my new PAS hose is in the correct place, amazing to think that the foam is 49 years old ! The oil filter is from the 'Parker Collection' Normally that's done on a hexagonal stand off with a screw at one end and George but as long as it works ;-)

Yes, it is on a hex, but the smaller bore pipe is shorter than the original.
I improved the thread with the use of a nut until it was OK to fit to the pump, but it was still tighter than the original and I had to do it up quite tight on both ends to stop it leaking, I sent a message to JRW and his reply was that these hoses are hand made in small batches and some people cross the threads ! No excuse for not cutting the thread properly.

I understand that all the invitations for the South East Rover Rally have now been sent out, there will also be information in Take 5 I am responsible for dealing with the postal entries and will be sitting by the letterbox waiting for the postman Actually I would rather entries were sent via on line, as then Ray deals with them and I spend more time polishing my brake pipes Sunday 14th June at Leonardslee gardens, Lower Beeding, RH13 6PR very close to the M23

This weeks Classic Car Weekly has a comparison between a P5b and a MK2 Jaguar. They are kind about both cars, the elite for the Rover and bank robbers for the Jag, with the conclusion that a late slim bumpered V8 powered Daimler has the best of both worlds. During the fuel crisis of 1973 my aunt bought a 1964 3.8 Jaguar MK2 automatic for Ā£600, 2 years later I bought my Rover and the difference in the quality of the components and build was very noticeable. My aunt kept the Jag until she went into a care home in 2011, she is now 98 - good genes !

The rare 1969 Lamborghini driven by Sir Roger Moore in The Man Who Haunted Himself is set to fetch Ā£275,000 at auction, I would rather have the Rover

Took the door panel off the rear offside to lubricate the locking mechanism and a nut dropped out with just a little bit of bolt. Further investigation revealed that the tops of all three bolts under the quarter light had rusted away, easy enough to replace and the picture shows a pile of rust, which is the remains of the heads of the bolts and a perfect nut on the end of a bolt, preserved by Waxoyl !

Got mine down off the ramp today and run her up and then swapped her over with my other newly aquired classic which is now up on the ramp with my P5B underneath. I sold my beloved Aston Martin 3 weeks ago after 7 years as it was time for a change.
I have placed an order with Bell silencers factory Cricklade who are building me a brand new full stainless exhaust system to include fully fitted which they will be able to do for me in a few weeks time once their backlog has cleared.
The system on my P5B is tired and TBH has also been bodged in the past so it has to go in favour of a full new system as per the factory book spec which Bell silencers have. In fact they tell me they used to supply Rover with all their exhausts many years ago along with other car plants which they still do today.
Looking forward to having it done now and another job underside out the way.

I have a Langfords on mine, that has been on for about 40 years, a good investment and well worth doing, but, Brendan, you will have to polish it with Autosol I did not do the downpipes from either side of the engine, they did not fit and by the time replacements arrived I had fitted the rest of the system, so the stainless ones are still in the attic. You may find that she is a bit noiser with the SS

This and the one on my P6B are not noticeably noisier, not to my ear, but the tone is very slightly different. Most come with a lifetime (of the car?) guarantee. I had one on a previous P6 for three decades.

Today I started the love of my life from her winter slumbers. The last time she was running was in October last year. I turned the starter for a few seconds to raise the oil pressure and then turned on the fuel pump, pulled out the choke a little and away she went. I have spent 127 hours working on her and wanted to make sure that there were no leaks, all seems to be well, so her feet will soon be back on the floor !

Well lockdown fever has caused me to barricade myself into my workshop, where I have finally removed the sick engine from the Rover. Many packages & boxes of shiny new bits keep turning upš so hopefully by the end of this week the āshortā engine will be rebuilt & back in the car, I have a pair of efi heads to go on but they still need fettling, which will have to wait for next pay day. Iāve had the sump off the auto box and replaced the kick down cable, obviously I need to wait until the carbs & throttle linkage has been refitted before I can adjust it, so Iāve popped the sump back on to keep the dirt out. I also need to pop the dipstick tube off as the little cork/rubber bung thing has made its way down the tube & is jamming the stick. Iāve also renewed all the front anti roll bar bushes as they were like a black jelly. Iāve also noticed a leaky wheel cylinder on the o/s/r as thereās a little pool of fluid on the floor

Hereās the main reason the engine came to bits, if you look at the 2 cams side by side and compare the lobes you will notice no.6 exhaust lobe (12the one along) is completely missing

My car came with 7 wheel trims, two are in good condition, 3 are ok and two are waiting for me to remove the centres and enter the scrap as they are truly beyond repair. I missed out on a set that sold locally for $20 that looked reasonable but I didn't notice the auction was almost ended.
So as these are not that readily available here I have had a go at carefully straightening out the dings and repolishing. The Wheel trim parts are a bit tricky but the centres are not too bad if the damage is punched slightly proud and then finished back to smooth. Getting the centre brushed ring right has been a bit difficult by hand so today I made a wooden mandrel for the lathe and found that 180 grit emery cloth produces a pretty nice finish at 250RPM. The trim in the picture is the worst one on the car and this afternoon had quite a dent in the brushed section before I started.
I hadn't done the final repolish on the shiny bits yet.
Cheers
Martin

Not really today, more like last Sunday I removed the defunct alarm siren & badly fitted electric fuel pump from the n/s inner wing, gave it a polish up & gave the pas reservoir a fresh coat of black. Depending on the weather I might give the other side similar treatment this weekend. Iām at a standstill with my engine as I am struggling to find a piston.......plenty new ones out there but nobody will sell a single & I just canāt justify Ā£800
