Agree with True Viking, any colour is possible. I am right now in the process of cosmetically restoring a P5B saloon in Bordeaux red. I heared no complaints from the painter about the colour.... Started changing all my Moquette and Furflex I didn't want to but it has been attacked by Carpet Moths any where just below the carpets or where it is dark! even the edge strips on the front parcel shelf and behind the bottom B post bottom trim, so a bit of work to do :-( as the car has been undercover for 19 months the little Beasts have had a good meal so it will be worth a look in your cars! have never noticed a moth at any time, I have sprayed all the affected areas just in case!!

It may be Carpet Beetle - these are really greedy and very difficult to kill. Some have attacked our 100% Axminster wool carpet just in front of the French doors and despite numerous treatments the patch has spread and there is now quite a large threadbare patch.
It is not through normal wear as it started next where it not walked over! They must have crept through the doors to lay their eggs.
The whole carpet will have to be replaced as a join near the doors would show up and come apart.

They haven't touched the Axminster carpet Phil only the 100% wool so I think it's the Moth to blame :-(

Sorry to hear that John. Carpet moths are not a problem that we experience down here. Engimas will back me up. When normal international flights resume again, I'll send you a huntsman to keep behind the driver's sun visor.

Lovely looking car. Although that type of lift puts great stain on the rear spring bushes, can cause failure, so be aware.

SPOILER ALERT ! You might see my short article in Take Five soon, describing what I've done to my P5B recently. I hope I don't upset the Editor (or the purists) by "publishing" early, but as I was on here looking for info on curing the repeated leaks on my steering box (?) I thought I could try and upload the pdf? Attachment Deleted

The 2.89:1 diff ratio certainly gives a tall final drive ratio with the ZF trans somewhere in the order of 2.5:1. I don't quite understand the use of a 'solenoid' on the 'kickdown/pressure control cable' that the ZF4HP22 uses, as it's quite a straight forward setup like the previous BW35 used! 😎👍

Following my last post showing the condition of the inside edge of the rear doors on my P5B Coupé, I am pleased to say that after great efforts, the inside lower corners have been remade to be ready to accept the lower door skin. Attachments:

Now that all paint is removed from them rear wings, is has allowed us to see all the previous history, damage and any rot that had been hidden or filled. On the near side rear wing, the top edge had previously several holes that had rotted and been covered up with filler. These were now clearly visible and it was decided that a length of the top be removed and replaced with new metal. Attachment DeletedTop edge shows holes! Hello All,
No update on my Rover, but I am curious if anyone knows if Brendan69 is ok?
I had my "eyeroll" moments with some of his posts, but there is no doubt this forum is less dynamic from his health having forced his withdrawal from our P5 world.
Brendan, if you're quietly monitoring this forum, we miss you mate and wish you the best.

I got my driveshaft back from the shop on Friday (after 6 weeks!) and installed it Saturday. Made sure the rear portion was level and it has made all the difference in the world! Took it for a short drive (one mile) and seemed ok. Drove it to work this morning and it is so much better now. Had it balanced and the front part rebuilt with a smaller diameter tube. 20 years or so ago, I had put in a 3.8L Buick V6 with a turbo 350 automatic with a lockup torque converter and had the front half of the driveshaft modified to fit the American transmission. The tube diameter was changed to a larger size (I think 2 1/4") and it seemed to work. When I changed it all to a 4.3L engine and a manual 5 speed trans, the mountings were a bit higher and with the larger diameter tube, it was bumping against the underside the of the tunnel (which is very narrow anyway). I now have a 1.75" tube, which works great! No bumping against the sides of the tunnel, which makes driving the car much more enjoyable!!

A lovely evening in Sussex so went shopping to Pulborough and had a run at the same time, going along about 60mph and a pidgeon waddling in the road, it did not take off in time and when it did was wiped out by the bumper, fortunately no damage to the Rover and the blood on the bumper washed off, difficult to see through the cloud of feathers !

I've hit a few birds over the years with a radio antenna. Makes a heck of a noise and there is a BIG cloud of feathers in the rear mirror! Quite a shock when it happens as I don't always see the bird before the hit!

Fixed a couple of nagging problems that keep coming back this weekend. Despite going to a smaller tube for the front half of the drive shaft, I was still getting noises that sounded like it was hitting something. Crawled under the car and found some captive nuts that hold the rear mounts of the front seats were intermittently brushing against the drive shaft! Pried them out of their holders, replaced the bolts with ones that have a thinner head on them. This enabled me to adjust the height of the center mounting to straighten out the drive shaft as a whole. On my way into work this morning, no more noises! I also redid the accelerator pedal using one from a Jag XJS and cable from the pedal to the carb. Adapting the Rover linkage had never really worked well so I removed the pedal, mounted the XJS one and ran a cable straight to the carb. Works so much better now! I'm heading up to Boise Idaho in a couple of weeks and both these fixes will make the trip less noisy!

Tie a fox tail to the aerial.

I've often thought that the fox tail on the antenna was more of a fashion statement than a deterrence to birds flying too close to the road!
