Hi, can anyone tell me the exact Burlen replacement for the twin 'points' fuel pump as used in 3litres? Mine is a points pump and because the car is sitting for a long time, everytime I want to start it I have to remove the pump and clean the points. I'd like a plug and play replacement. Many thanks

Burlen Fuel Services offers an electronic version of their SU fuel pumps with no points. Check the tags on your pump(s) for the exact model or call them up and find the specific information. Unfortunately they are not inexpensive.

While this "might" be down to dirty points, consider you might also have a old and stiff diaphragm that is preventing the pump oscillating. A sharp tap with the heel of a shoe will usually wake them up.
If the points really do need frequent dressing, then check that there is either a capacitor across the points, or a quenching diode across the solenoid.
Lastly, it is worth checking that the pump has a full 12.5V between the casing and the power terminal and that your problem is not due to faulty wiring / switches etc.
