Were all the P5B front and rear bumpers chrome, or might they have been stainless steel at some point?

thanks John - looking at mine they both appear to have short diagonal scratch lines as well as traditional rust spots which is why i wondered. Re-chrome it is then and thanks.

Modern chroming not anywhere as good as OEM and that was pretty bad. Leave them as is and protect where you can. Its called Patina these days to annoy purists

If you have small scratches Eric don't use abrasive creams to remove them the Chrome is only microns thick! you will then be down to the Nickel :-( I know there are Chrome "Polishes" if they are abrasive I don't know? I wouldn't use Autosol or similar products.

For surface rust stains I have used an Autoglym alloy wheel cleaner spray. I think it is slightly acidic and you only leave it on for a minute or 2 at a time, then wash off. It took a lot of staining out of mine about 6 years ago which has not returned.

And don't forget to wax your chrome, as you would the car, for added protection.

As well as regular application of polish I apply Waxoyl (or similar) to the back of the bumpers and inside the over-riders.
