I am going to replace my handbrake rods, all 4. Question for the engineers amongst you. What material would you recommend, would mild steel round bar be adequate or something stronger?

Roy, you will be telling me next that judging at gatherings will include use of mirrors as used in security checks!! Seriously, I have contemplated that but cutting a thread is somewhat more difficult with stainless.

You may know this already, but it can be quite difficult to cut a long thread without the die going off kilter. Ideally one does it in a lathe, but in the absence of a lathe, I mount the rod in the chuck of my drill press, and use the drilling table to keep the die stock square as I start the thread. Sshh, don't tell anyone else, but sometimes I use the drill motor to get the thread started too, rather than rotate the chuck by hand.
