I noticed on this old video of assembly of Rover P5s at Rovers factory that (at about 2 minutes) you can see a rear window being sealed with what looks like the trims already in place. You tube video.

It was sealed before and after fitting the trim and in fact its useful to put sealant before fitting the rubber. Its a really messy job!

I don't put screen sealer between the rubber and glass until the screen is in with the trim fitted etc otherwise it gets real messy

I am planning to change my front screen seal as it is perished and I am dreading it! I am waiting for the warmer weather to come before starting it!😬

Yes seal between the seal and glass when fitted! Just take your time you will be fine

I hope that I never have to do a screen, but I know that Rover did not put enough sealent in or on when they built our cars. Mine was only 4 years old when I had her and the screens both leaked. Water collected in the dip by the jack, probably caused by the stainless trim not being sealed properly, so I drilled a hole so that it could run out !

my P5B had substantial water lying in the same area and after the screen was professionally re-glazed it still did! There was a grommet there but the water caused some rust which resulted in a plate to cover it.

Where there is a join there needs to be sealant. Incidentally if you have a coupe, look at the rubber under front and back quarter lights, if water runs down the little windows there is only one place it can go, as the rubber sits below the trim, into the door ! Poor design !
