I have recently obtained from JR Wadhams new stainless steel exhaust down pipes for my P5B. It was built in 1971 and has standard manifolds. The tapered openings to the manifolds are significantly smaller than the corresponding part of the down pipes. As a result the tapers do not engage at all and the only part in contact with the manifolds is the ends of the pipes. I have managed to get some sort of seal by resorting to exhaust paste but this is clearly not a solution. Wadhams tell me that they have been supplying these pipes for years to the same size and have never had any problems and they have nothing else they can offer. I shall resort to removing the pipes and machining the ends of the pipes down to obtain a good fit - fortunately I run an engineering business so this is something we are able to do. However, I would be interested to know if anyone else had a similar problem?

A friend had issues with a complete exhaust system and in the closure period of JRW had some alterations made. On JRW return they would not ac accept a claim as it should have been returned as not suitable for the purpose.

Sorry Sam but they have since sold out there to another company about 2 years ago and moved their entire outfit back to their main factory in Cricklade on the industrial estate. The new place at old town is still there and they do indeed still fit general car parts and exhaust albeit all the specialist side of things and the tooling machines were all removed and taken to Cricklade. I have used this firm many times over the last 12 years and have only recently used them again and placed my order with them for a complete new bespoke made system on my P5B saloon. Regards,

Many thanks everyone for your thoughts on this. Hopefully there will be enough material in the pipes I have to allow me to machine them to fit the manifolds. If not, I shall make contact with Bell's as you suggest.

Not sure if they are or not but they did tell me at time of my order that it would be about 8 weeks before they could do my car and that they would need the car in there fitting bay for 48 hours albeit if your just wanting pipes then i suppose they could post them to you if they are operating and have any made up which i don't think they do. Made up on an order only basis i think so no doubt you may have to join the orders que. Regards,

I realize these comments above are for the V8 engined P5B exhaust, but FWIW I have purchased a stainless steel downpipe for my 3-litre MkIIC P5 Coupe from JRW in the past and it fit very nicely without problems.
