Sad to hear of the death of Sir Stirling Moss at a grand age of 90 β perhaps the best F1 driver the UK ever had. A man of great principle who remained with British cars even though the UK was constantly pipping us to top places. I had the pleasure of meeting him in or around 1970. Ford had launched a business upgraded executive Mk4 Zodiac compete with gold bling decals everywhere. This top-notch car was featured in a national competition, a Zodiac being the prize. It was a man from south Wales who was invited to Reynolds Motors being the Ford Main Dealer close to the factory main gate. One the due day, the winner arrived to collect his reward from Stirling Moss no less. While everyone was posing with their Chardonnay, the sales manger spotted that the front apron panel below the number plate was still in prime paint! He skipped off to the parts department for a couple of spray cans and thereby saved the day! Sir Stirling had a sister Pat Moss who was a leading rally driver around the same period.

I was track-side, literally, when Moss won the 1956 Melbourne Grand Prix on the old Albert Park Lake circuit. I was 6 years old.

...... Sir Stirling had a sister Pat Moss who was a leading rally driver around the same period. Yes, Pat Moss was married to another racing legend in the rally world, Eric Carlsson. Eric won the RAC Rally three years running - 1960, 1961, 1962 in a Saab 96 2 stroke. He also won the Monte Carlo in 1962 and 1963.

I saw him run over some folks toes on his mobility scooter at the NEC classic car show last year. He was motoring and his crew were running behind him and at his side like a Presidential motor cade. LOL
