After believing for some time that the sticking choke was on my car was due to cable issues I decided to fix it.
Under further investigation it appears that it may not be the cable at all.
One the side that the choke closes correctly the torsional spring has two complete rotations whilst on the other side that sticks, only one rotation.
Simple enough fix you'd think?
Fortunately I have a spare inlet manifold and carbs so decided to look at how to dismantle and fix on the spare set.
When I looked at the spare set it has exactly the same problem so I thought I'd fix that one first.
Having destroyed my finger ends trying to set the spring correctly and failing miserably I wondered if anyone has any advice on how to keep the springs under tension while refitting them. There must be a technique to this.
If its this difficult to do on the bench I dread to think how hard it will be on the car.

What model SU are you referring to? As you have a spare to bench test why not post a picture of the errant mechanism.
