Hi can any one help me please! Im looking for a replacement solenoid for my "Silvester" its a 1968 saloon Engine number 8400139 1A. The Old Solenoid is marked 10/67, 76778B 121v ER,the workshop manual shows two starters with two different solenoids for different engine number ranges 1. engines numbered from 84018391 or 2. engines numbered from 84002575 to 84018390 nether of these ranges are of my numbers! Ive asked Moss engineering, Wadhams Mark Cossey and Dave Green all have been very helpful but no luck as yet!
I am unable to get to the starter from under the car to remove it but if I have to I can have it transported to a garage and have a new starter with solenoid fitted but whist Im aware that a number of staters out in the market place identified for a P5b they are different and I don't know which one to buy! advise would be welcome This is my first post so my fingers are crossed.

I think Silvester is the car i very nearly bought nearly 2 years ago and didnt. If he is said car and i am sure he is then i do know the previous owner had a massive spares hoard for P5B cars so maybe you could ask him if he has one stashed away for the car?? unless of course you already have. I would be interested to know how well Silvester is these days too and if you have done anything with him to improve his bottom half which let him down for me in the end and the costs involved to get him mint again. He has a great factory spec too which i loved and also the very first owner had the same surname as myself and the car was registered 1 year and 1 day before my own birthday and that was as close as i ever came to a 1st feb 1969 model. In the end i settled for a very late 1st August 73 car instead and have never looked back but i still have fond memories of the day i went to see Silvester.

Hi not sure its the same P5b, although I did purchase it18 months or so ago from a chap in Milton Keynes who had not had it very long! He did have a few spare parts not a lot but if you wanted to confirm give me a call and we can confirm.07495475820

Various were fitted but the only difference is that the solenoid cap for early models with the coil ballast had an extra terminal to shunt out the ballast when the starter motor was turning. These should be readily available but if not just fit the standard cap/solenoid with a 12v unballasted coil.
The Lucas motor was used on numerous cars in the 60-90s and modern HiTorque can be fitted if desired instead
The motor can be removed from under the car without too much bother - the 5/16 Half in AF bolts hace screwdriver slots to help fitting

Burnt grey saloon with mullbury interior and a full factory webasto sunroof and the tyres had red bands on them too. A very nice car with a great history too albeit sadly it needed far too much doing from the waist down so i walked away.
