I've searched the workshop manual for instructions on removing the centre console to no avail. Can someone who has done this give me a few clues please ?

Simples!
Pop the gear change plate out from the bottom and lift it up - you can see a chrome screw which when removed allows you to lift out the base bit of the console ( it may be stuck from years but it isn't fixed at the bottom and only has 2 clips at the top that slide under the frame. Once this is up you can see the 2 nuts that hold the console down. You'll have to remove the switches panel to disconnect the wiring then it's ready to wiggle out with front seats pushed right back. It's really that easy. I didn't even remove the gearknob on mine as it's nice and tight on a new bushing.
Also if you like you tube, subscribe to Tara bordeaux who recently showed this process in summary as he replaced the correct fittings....
It's the easiest console ive ever removed so good luck!

Fantastic Barry. Just what I needed. It seems to be an ommission from the manual or maybe just well hidden. I'm off to try it now.

Just checked out "TARA Bordeaux" Barry. Brilliant resource. Just watched him refitting his centre console - exactly what I needed. Thanks,
Mike
