One of the delights of membership of any club is the variety of "off topic" interests that you find other members have. During a recent (socially distanced) visit to a local P5Club member, he was able to show me two model boats he owned. The first one is the pond yacht Phoenix, which was originally built back in the mid 1930s. Keith found it in a poor condition, and rebuilt it from the keel up, adding new planks to the hull and deck, and fitting radio control over the fore and main sails. New sails were made from surplus offcuts of hot air balloon fabric. The second model is a fully animated radio controlled model of a rowing boat, containing a young beau and his girl and their dog, out for a picnic. The rower rows via the oars, which can operate independently or together, and turns his head, the lady passenger can wave her hand and turn her head, and the dog can wag it's tail and bark. All parts of this model were hand made by Keith, including the design and manufacture of the ingenious mechanism which turns the rotating action of an electric motor into the rowing action which propels and steers the craft. Unfortunately the current circumstances prevent me being able to show these fine models in action in their proper environment, but maybe I will be able to provide an update at a later date. A "dry land" demonstration video follows. Attachments:

Just wow! I have an old Victorian Balloon Clock which hasn't run for almost 20 years, sat on the mantelpiece awaiting repair. I wouldn't know where to start on something like this.

That is a real treat, I have never seen a rowing boat like that.
Certainly has charm.
