Hello all,
My twice rebuilt aed is messing about again. From cold the car won't start, there is plenty of fuel to the device and after a time of cranking fuel is pouring out the hot air pick up as well as flooding into the manifold.
I've checked the float chamber and all seems well there but before I go into the main body again I wondered if you would naturally suspect the main valve?
I had decided to dump it and go manual choke but JRW seem to be out of stock and Burlen don't do them any more. The cost of an aed rebuild kit is now 104 quid as opposed to 144 for the manual conversion which will be an end to any further rebuilds.
Interested to hear your thoughts as always
Many thanks
Barry

Barry I'd contact John (W) I know his immaculate P5B has an AED...and AFAIK it seems to work faultlessly. He's also someone with a good mechanical/analytical brain, so any advice/recommendations would be spot on.

Hello Barry
My grey friend had the same AED-issue (no cold-start anymore) after over 30 yyears of working properly and without any problems!
My mechanich tried it with another, exhchange one. Same problem.
So we had as well to decide to go for a manual choke (conversion kit JRW).
The use afterwards is at first a bit "unfamiliar", because you have to remember to put the choke back after a while. But it is just a question of getting used to it.
Since then, no problems at all anymore.
Peter
P.S No idea, whyy the small "Y" and the "X" are not accepted, typing this post. I often made this experience on website-forms.

Out of curiosity was the replacement AED a refurbished one? or one found on the shelf?

Well, myyyyyy one, the original first one, was refurbished (if I remember there are overhaul kits), which in the end nevertheless did not work.
The 2nd one was, I think one from the shelf. Not quite sure if it was previously redone.
My mechanic learnt on BL and afterwards had several Rovers, P5 and P6B. Now he is more into Jaguars and Porsches ; )
