My p5b has developed a problem. The engine starts ok but the starter motor then remains energised and therefore engaged. My initial thought was that the solenoid was sticking. I therefore removed the starter and stripped the solenoid. It was spotlessly clean with no sign whatever of sticking though there was some pitting to the contacts. I therefore machined the contacts and then reassembled all. The problem remains. I then checked for voltage at the solenoid energising wire and it was present-I could have saved myself several hours work had I checked this first, but there we are. I have checked the key switch which is the later type on the column- all ok. I now suspect the starter relay though does not seem very likely. Is this a common problem? Any other suggestions gratefully received.

Sounds like the starter relay stuck on. Should be a 6RA IIRC. I've seen it happen before.

Many thanks both. I now have a new starter relay on order.
