After working on my rear brakes and throttle linkage, suddenly one of my side lights and rear lights are not working. I have verified it is not the bulbs and so I must have accidentally messed something up. I had a quick look around under the bonnet and don't see that I have dislodged any earth wires. Any bright ideas (pun intended) before I look deeper?

Apologies for the obvious question but have you accidentally switched parking lights on instead? So easily done with the 3position light switch.....

Great question but no I checked that by trying the switch in both positions. I did think maybe one of the leads has become disconnected from the back of the switch, but as the issue coincided with me working on other things, I thought the more obvious culprit would be that I have dislodged something

Are the non-working lights on the same side? Where exactly have you been working?

Hi David. This would probably be pretty obvious, but my LHD Rover has a setting to just turn on the parking lights on the driver's side (street side) for parking on the street in Europe. If I move the light switch toggle to the right they all come on. Moving it to the left only turns on the running lights (front and rear) on the left side of my car. My car was sold in West Germany originally, so I don't know if this applied to cars sold in England as well.

The headlight is fine. I was working on changing the rear wheel cylinders at the rear and in the front I was working under the hood trying to repair my throttle linkage.

Yes this was also the case with the UK cars and that is not the issue as the problem is present with when the switch is in the position for all of the side lights to come on. It will be something obvious when I look more methodically

Clean the fuses/fuse holders, I lost one side a couple of weeks ago & that’s all it was Always worth checking but only Mk3s on were fully fused - earlier car's had no fused lighting circuits. Corroded/loose bullet connectors especially the earth tag clips screwed give plenty of scope for high resistance if disturbed and often not noticed
