It occurred to me as I read more in this forum and work through various jobs, that there are a number of special precautions that must be taken when working on the P5 3litre. Some of these will also apply to the P5B of course.
Anyway I wondered if anyone had compiled a list of do's and dont's which would be quite useful to most members. For starters here are the one's I have read about:
1. Rear brakes - fit the wheel cylinders so that they float on the back plate (is this unique to the P5 or do other cars require this also?
2. Never lift the rear of the car without the rear axle being supported due to the fact that all of the weight would be on the rubber contrasonic bushings. I suspect this is unique to the Rover as all other leaf spring suspended cars would have shackles?
3. Do not tighten the front suspension after bushing replacement until the car has been lowered to the ground and allowed to settle. Again is this a standard requirement for Metalastik bushings used in suspension systems
These are the only ones I am aware of, but there may be others?
