past threads on PAS to Rover P5s is confusing, but can anyone say if a power assist system can be fitted to a 1959 P5 which has none? The engine was also used on P4s - did they not have a Rover PAS system? This www.youtube.com/watch?v=XdWnAAfwnEs&ab_channel=RickBirchall is interesting. The entire power steering system can be fitted to all P5s. P4s never had power steering and the manual system is unique to the P4 and P5 systems do not fit (box turns opposite way)

Hi - i believe the length of the steering column on non-power assisted steering is longer than on the power steering version, since the dimension of the pas box is different.
There was an upgrade too on the bearings for the steering column too, which occurred on the MK 1a in 1961.
You can see details on this in the parts catalogue under “options”.

Dynamo etc etc.

The dynamo was replaced with an alternator and is negative earth.

As the dynamo drives the pump on it end the alternator will have to be replaced with the relevant dynamo (or Dynamotor with the end drive) and a double crankshaft pulley. The conversion is quite a bother unless a doner 3 Litre is available with all good parts
