Plans dashed! I was hoping to take our P5B out for a decent run this weekend but sadly the charging system has decided to pack up. I have checked through the system and the culprit seems to be the 4TR regulator. Does anyone in the Dorset/Devon/Somerset area happen to have a working unit they would be willing to part with? A long shot, I know... If not, I shall leave the dear old thing mothballed for another week and I may take the opportunity to fit an ACR alternator.

Does anybody have a wiring diagram for the 11AC charging system using a 4 pin 4TR regulator? There are plenty of places on the web where a 3 pin diagram can be found - but not the 4 pin. I am pretty certain that I have a broken wire between the alternator and the 4TR but without a wiring diagram I am working in the dark.
Your help will be gratefully received!

There is no difference really
The 4 terminal one has a pair of common + terminals for Brown/Purple cables. The handbook and WSM has the wiring diagrams etc and P5OC members can have the free PDF colour large diagram if they email me direct with their membership number
Both types are readily available from Wadhams and eBay and the 3 terminal one can be used with wiring loom mods

Thanks Phil. Understood. This is as I had presumed must be the case but it is good to have it confirmed. I would still like to find out where the additional + wire to the 4TR terminates so I can check it out. Perhaps the starter motor solenoid incoming battery terminal? If so, it should show 12volts or thereabouts with the engine stopped but mine shows nothing at all which leads me to assume the wire is broken somewhere. There is likewise no voltage on that wire with the ignition switched on.
My version of the WSM P5B supplement wiring diagram only shows the earlier 3 pin 4TR. I am a club member and will drop you an email - I would be very glad of an alternative wiring diagram. As most will know, the version issued by Rover in the WSM has a number of errors so it would be good to have the correct one.

I will send you the Wiring diagrams including the last one for the 4 terminal 4TR but these only cover the early models with Cold Start and ballasted coil. They also correct most of the errors (wiper switch excepted). Rover never updated the diagram for the 4 terminal 4TR till the very end (item 46 on WSM diagram but the only difference is that its used a junction for the Field+ cable (Brown/Purple) instead of twin cables on the 6RA relay terminal C2 (item 51 on diagram)

Hi Phil, I am rebuilding my P5B from 68 and it has a 4 pin regulator. What I have found is that if I connect up the alternator and the 4 connections on the 4TR then the alternator is fed with 12volts even when the ignition is off. If I disconnect the 4th connection to the 4TR it only sends voltage when the ignition is on. Any thoughts on what could be wrong? Thanks in advance
