In my continued striving to clean and refurb my 64 I thought it was time to clean and make sure the windscreen washer was working correctly. Also the bottle was loose as one of the riots had failed. The bottle was machine screwed to a piece of metal placed through the support. Anyway this gave me access to two tags attached to the body under the bottle, which I cleaned up to reveal numbers. I am interested in the origins of my car and hoped they can be decoded. See photos. the numbers are H 002335 and 7993 W. Always grateful for any help given. Attachments:

Just noticed this - these are the body numbers attached by the then independent Pressed Steel Co Ltd who built bodies for a number of the smaller car manufacturers eg Rolls Royce.
I am not aware of any other information as to the code. Pressed Steel Co was taken over by BMC/BMH just before the the Leyland Motors merger. It was soon merged with BMC's Fisher & Ludlow pressing company which was then renamed Pressed Steel Fisher. This company did all the BLMC pressings (and also some third party manufacturers) including the P5B and quality suffered for some time after P5Bs were discontinued

Hi, I wondered. Does the club keep a data base for logging all the codes and numbers associated with these historic cars (eg carb numbers/ gearbox numbers/brake numbers).I keep a log of all the numbers I find on my vehicles when I find them, as a matter of course. Being a member of other classic clubs I am aware they have data logging systems where these numbers can be downloaded by members for the historical record. What you have is a spread sheet with all the details of each vehicle. You end up with a very useful tool where you can see where your car comes in production, also how many cars are left and what modifications they have.

No and it would not be much use as the bodies were not used on the production line in the order it was built by PSC/PSF or even the chassis number (VIN) allocated in exact date order - too many component shortages/industrial disputes interrupted full completion. The heritage centre at Gaydon holds some production records
