Prepping the Fuel FillersIt's been rather wet and cold lately, and the weather, and a month's road trip up north slowed my progress down on completing this project. Both filler caps, their mounts and connections where required have been sorted and are now ready for paint. Here a few pix of both fuel fillers ready for primer and paint. Both mounting plates will be painted in body colour and affixed to the car with alloy pop rivets left unpainted. If either side needs to be removed at some later date, the pop rivet "heads" alone, can be easily removed with a suitable drill bit and the filler assemblies removed. Petrol Filler with Tube. What can't currently be seen is the petrol intake tube at the opening of the filler. I removed this section from a late model Toyota Corolla (actually the same car I removed the Electric Power Steering system from.) The filler component is designed to accept the petrol pump nozzle and incorporates both a stop and spring loaded small flap valve. This was brazed into the opening of the fuel filler cap screw mount tube. Tubing to meet up with the petrol tank inlet was fabricated and welded to the Toyota fuel inlet. See last image. This image below is a facsimile of the fuel filler section but without the small internal flap valve.

Installation CompletedOver the last couple of days between the inclement weather I managed to finish off the remaining tasks and installed both fuel fillers including the hoses and vents for the DS petrol filler. There are a still a few small maintenance jobs under the car and when these are done, I'll input the petrol ignition map into the programmable electronic ignition module that the car runs. The module has provision for 2 unique ignition MAPS, one for LPG and one for Petrol. Here are some pix of the completed project. The petrol filler prior to being mounted on the DS of the car. The small spring loaded filler valve can be seen if looking into the filler tube. This is the DS petrol filler. There are 2 skins on this side, an internal skin about 12mm (1/2") below the outer body panel. The notches are required to both remove and fit the filler tube if the need arises. The paint was scuffed and an anerobic sealer applied to the surface where the petrol filler circular flange meets the body skin. The petrol filler permanently in place. A view of the petrol filler tube and air purge connections.

Gased UpI lowered the coupe off the stands late yesterday and today I drove it to a service station and fueled both tanks. A few pix below showing the LPG gas pump attached through the quick release filler, and the fuel (petrol) gauge on the auxilliary tank showing just over one quarter full. With that done, I still have one final task and that is to input the ignition timing figures into the programmable ignition module. It's a good thing I keep specific notes, as it's not something I do every day.

Refitting the Spare Wheel Carrier.Although all the work for the dual fuel system has been sorted for a while now, I didn't refit the spare wheel carrier until today. Once it was removed to finish bolting the auxilary petrol tank to the boot floor several other small jobs presented themselves. These included: Draining and refilling the differential with fresh gear oil. As the diff in my coupe has a centre gearset (2.9:1) from a Borgwarner diff spliced into the Rover P5 housing, the rear cover plate can also be removed. This permits the gearset and housing to be physically cleaned. This then led to fitting 2 steel plates to either side of the towbar frame fixtures to spread the load more evenly on the Coupe's box frame and finally, properly cleaning and repainting the spare wheel carrier. Here's a couple of photos of the rear underside section of my coupe. The new Facet fuel pump and filter can be seen to the right of the tyre carrier and the freshly painted diff cover plate seen to the left. As an aside refitting the spare tyre carrier can be a pig of a job, especially trying to refit the pivot bolts and the small tubular spacers at the rear.
