Hi All
Thought I should share this and ask for any advice folks here may have....
The original toughened windscreen on my P5B Coupe got hit by a stone on Sunday, shattering the whole screen
I took a look at the cost of new clear screen from JRW (£295 + VAT) plus a 10-14 week lead time I also made a direct enquiry with Pilkingtons : They have one clear heated windscreen in stock at £1097 + VAT All other screens have a 10 - 12 week lead time - the cost for a clear screen = £670 + VAT
My insurance company will cover the cost up to £1000 with an installer that is not approved by them
I called JRW and they have told me their current online price is wrong and that it will be increasing...
Howard Edmey - replaced the front and rear screen rubbers for me a few years ago - He has a trade account with Pilkington His best estimate was £1778 to replace the front windscreen and rubber seal
I am shocked at how much this costs.... but it seems as though I have no alternative... I'm still picking my self up off the floor....
Any thoughts/ recommendations ? Tony

Hi Tony - GBP 1778 for BOTH the rear and front windscreens is the going rate. That's because of the amount of labour that goes into a quality fit. This time you have "only" the front windscreen and so the cost will be less. It is important to have a windscreen that will work to your expectations so take the one from Pilkington and have it fitted.
Pick clear or heated windscreen according to your own quality requirements - maintaining originality is important.
If the windscreeen is fitted wrongly you will have water leaks that can ruin your interior, so better make sure the job is done right the first time.
Make sure you get warranties against water leaks, so that you can request the job done again if it's not done right the first time.
Good luck.

I am sure the new laminated Coupe windscreen from Pilkingtons via Wadhams was over £600 + another £600 fitting with a new rubber. It had to be made.
All this was paid for by my insurance company by reimbursement as I had a one-time P5 specialist do it in the W Mids so it had to be trailered over there.
This was over 20 years ago
6 months later a stone cracked it again and this time the insurance company insisted Autowindscreens did it and they had one in stock. It was fitted it the next week in a day. The local depot was just down the road from our house as well
A screen trim was dinted by them and they had to source another which took 2 weeks. They fitted it in an hour on our drive. Its still in and no leaks yet!

I'm waiting for the quote, but based on a call with Howard - Its £1877 for the front windscreen only.... JR Wadhams current price (£295 - 24th Jan 2023) for a Pilkington P5B coupe windscreen www.jrwadhams.co.uk/windscreen-front-coupe.html - I expect the JRW price to go up to £600+

Wherever you get it from it will have been made in the same place. They are very difficult to fit so you will need lots of time and patience. Good luck.

Just as a follow up - in case anyone finds themselves with shattered windscreen
My insurance broker - Footman James - told me that Aegis the insurance company would only cover the first £1000 for the new screen and its installation
They also told me that they could go above this amount if their recommended screen installers declined the work Their recommended screen installers are National Windscreens and Auto Glass
National Windscreens turned down the job about a week after my enquiry It dragged on and on with Auto Glass - but after a month they too turned down the work
Howard Edmed - Merlin Motorscreens - supplied and fitted the screen for £1800
The insurance company paid up - £100 excess T
