Len what I've always done is to first make sure the heater control lever is put to the hot position. Then fill up with the mixture. Leave the radiator filler cap off and run the engine until its up to operating temp. When it is, gently squeeze the top hose on the radiator for some time. This will usually get rid of any airlocks, and you will see the water level go down in the radiator. Leave it to cool, then top up again. Go for a run in it and when you return you should find that the level won't have altered much. Don't take the rad cap off while it's hot, always put a thick cloth over it and just gently let the pressure out before removing.

Further to my last post, modern Anti-freeze lasts for about two years, so if you have a leak free car keep a container with 50/50 mix handy so it can be topped up at any time. The old days of draining out the mix after the winter are long gone, and it's beneficial now to leave it in all year round. It does give you an additional marginal raise in the boiling point which is handy. Also the ingredients now help to lubricate the water pump. This also applies to the P5B which has an aluminium head and should have an anti-freeze mix in year round.
