Unfortanetly the Srvo cannot be mounted here on 3 Litres - its virutally impossible to photograph one in situ - the manifols has to be removed to replace it so thats is why its underneath the wheel arch on yours./quote] I have replaced my servo several times Phil without taking the manifold off. If the engine mountings are released the engine can be pushed over far enough to extract the servo. Use a bottle jack and a CHUNKY piece of wood along all the manifold, and very carefully push the engine over.

Useful tip many of these old servos on P5's are on the verge of failure to to age and underuse - the manual says remove the manifold I think?
I carried on doing this because the previous owner's garage removed the manifold to "recondition" the servo and replaced the manifold using silicon mastic instead of the proper paper gasket. This began to leak water so I had to remove the manifold which took ages as the silicon had glued it to the head.
Not long after replacing it properly the servo failed so I just removed the manifold again - it did not take long!
Having a P4 which also used the Girling servo I was well aware of its locking up habit on other members cars (it is still happening!) when aged even after reconditioning and had converted this to the Lockheed type 7

You are absolutely right, Phil, the official way is to remove the manifold.

Also becoming as I am becoming less and flexible with increasing speed its easier removing the manifold than the contorsions needed to undo the engine mounts (or not apparently) to get the old one out, modify the mounting and slip the new one in!
Younger owners may not have this problem?

No actually - I just ordered it from a P4/Land Rover specialist - I & a Bartram of Accrington AKA John Wearing - it was a Unipart number if JW cannot help let me now and I wil try to look out the original invoice. Lockhead 7's are used on P6's and loads of other large cars of the 60-80's
