hi all, dont know if i should list this here or in electrical but here goes.... my problem is that when the car is idleing and i "blip" the throttle i get a "flat spot" or hesitation for a split second before it picks up! it seems that no matter how i adjust the mixture on the carb or the distributor setting its still there, very frustrating. ive checked for air leaks and all is good any ideas cheers matt

Have you checked that the dashpot is filled with oil?

I had a very similar symtom years ago on a Vauxhall with a stromberg carb. Flat spot on initial acceleration. Did the usual with the dashpot - even putting thicker oil in it. Turned out to be the main HT lead breaking down. Even having been in the trade for about 12 years at the time, that was a new one for me. Worth a check. Also check your vacuum advance tube works and pulls at the base plate in the dizzy as it should. Additionally that the base plate is not seized and does move.

Coils/HT leads are always a problem as they can breakdown unseen.
Hesitation - flat spot - is usually caused by fuel problems - the dashpot is often overlooked. Its possible that its running too weak This can be caused by too low a float level by it sticking or being punctured or just a matter of the mixture screw needs a quarter turn down. Is the economiser tube from the air intake to the float chamber OK - this is essential for smooth running.
I assume you have got the timing etc spot on and the advance weights in the dizzy are not sticking?
Are the plugs good?
