hi there i have just complete restoring a mk1 rover p5 1960 with a mk2 engine fitted the problem i have got is the auto box(d-g type) is leaking by the torque converter housing (not leaking from torque converter) but i think it is front oil seal(which is felt i think) i have been told because the gearbox has not been used for a long period time the front oil seal should seal it self MAYBE, i have run the engine and only tested the gearbox with the rear axle off the ground and seems to works fine thorogh the gears but leaks oil still i don't what take on the road just in case i damage the gearbox(unload),i don't what take the engine out again it very big job on mak1s .i have heard that there is automatric gearbox sealer what you mix with the ALF to replenish the seals dose anyone can help me thank mark21

The DG boxes are notiously leaky and also very critical on the correct oil level. You could well be right about the seal - it may well swell back to its original size. The additves are made by Comma, Wynns etc and work on the Neoprene seals by swelling them. Even Halfords sold one at one time not tolong ago. This can make servos/valves stick and thus making matters worse - try using it briefly checking ATL level regularly before adding anything Ps I thought the seal was leather?
