Whats the timing spozed to be on a 1961 3l?

Depends on the engine but most likely 3 deg BTDC but a slight retard of 1 deg may be required with unleaded fuel. Thsi can cbe set on the dizzy verier

You lot are very handy in here.. This sort of thing would have been very handy when I got my first 1800 14years ago.. Mind you, since I sold my landcrabs , I did say I'd never own an old car again.. Went from my 1800 Hearse/Austin3l/1885 to MGZS180,Griff500, Lotus elise and now a blinking P5.. And I only got it coz I though it had the austin 3l unit.. And of course it doesn't!!I must be mad! At least I kept them all BMC powered!! Cheers for the advice, had the car since march, its birthday was Monday, just hoping I'll be driving it this evening! ;D

Not sure about the others but your choice of a 3 Ltr P5 is faultless. I suggest you join the club and out youyr local rep

There's no comparison between the Austin 3 litre and the Rover 3 litre engine. The Rover 3 litre engine had nothing to do with BMC but was purely Rover. At least you now have made a class choice.

Very true.. Even tho I'm very Austin, the Rover 3l really is put together well. I couldn't believe you can't barely hear the thing ticking over.
Just about got it all back together now, it starting p***ing it down on me this evening, so will have to get back under the bonnet tmrw.
