Can anyone tell me if 3 litre pistons are flat topped or concave?
My engine has developed a cold seize after not being turned over for a year or so. I can't budge it on the starting handle. I have sprayed wd40 and some 3 in 1 down the plug holes but this will be pointless if the pistons are concave! I'll have to stick a load more in.
Please someone let me know. thanks

Thats the right answer cheers!
So all my wd40 and oil will have sat around the piston rings then?

Make sure you put plenty in so it will flow all round.
Even if the rings do come unstuck without breaking they may not be very effective as to oil control. The valve seatings in the head and the block on the valves that were open may have become pitted with corrosion/acid residues so you may still have to lift the head to regrind/replace them

As as update to this I left it a week but the engine still would not budge so I put 3 syringes full of plus gas down each plug hole. I left it 10 mins and managed to shift the engine on the starting handle. I then put a load more wd40 in and turned the engine over a few times by hand. Then I rigged the battery back up and although it was low it had no problem spinning the engine over very smoothly.
I've replaced the plugs now and left the battery on charge over night so when I get home from work tonight I'm going to try and fire her up..wish me luck!

Plus Gas Formula A is the best release product ever; better even than a paraffin/diesel mixture. Trouble is, it's quite hard to find now. If you leave it again, squirt some oil or REDEX if you can find it, into the pluggoles and turn over by hand. Then replace the plugs to keep the moisture out.

As an update to this, the car was eventually started but it pulled all the rubbish out of the bottom of the tank along with varnishing everything up and crudding up the carb. But she ran sweet, I just need to strip the carb down and clean it all out now.
