Hi
I'm writing for my dad, so we would like to say hi.
We have a question about our 63 p5 3L. We just got it 8 months ago so we don't know too much about it. We were fortunate to get it good running condition. The power steering is tempermental, but we have read that it's to be expected.
We noticed that the two belts are are in pretty bad shape and we would like to change them. We are located in Toronto, Canada, so we were going to take them both out and take them to a parts store and see if they can match them up with an existing belt. Does anyone have any other ideas? Also, is there any particular way we should go about taking the belts off? Anything we should know?
Secondly, when we put the car up the other day, we noticed that one of the washers (not sure if that's what they are called, see the description below) is coming off of the steering system. I'm not a mechanic, so let me try to explain it. It's got a big lug nut that you can tighten and it seems to be the part where the wheel connects to the steering column. Between the two links there is a large washer that is all frayed and is pretty much falling off. We can take a picture and submit it if that will help better. In either case, we need them for both sides and if anyone has any ideas about where we could get them that would be nice.
Well that's it for now. Thanks for reading and your help.

Hi and welcome to the forum. The big rubber washer is the flexi joint - I am sure you could find something locally to fit or make one out of rubber/fabric belting. Not sure whether any new ones are still avaulable but secondhand ones can be had in teh UK from David Green
The belts are 9mm x 1050 & 857 mmstandard and removing them will get you the right one. they are fitted to numerous UK cars.
I suggest you get a WS manual from the P5OC but you really need to remove teh rad to access the nuts/bolts safely without damage. This should not be a big job but new hose clips or even hoses will be needed Hose clips are standard the hoses have to be sorced from specialist.
tell us more about you & your car! Any pic
