Hi there, i have the oppertunity to buy a new wiring loom for my 68 P5B Coupe but the loom is for a P5B Saloon, i know the coupe has more guages but the 3.5 litre suppliment for the manual says that the wiring diagram is common to all models. Do the looms on the saloons have the wires for the extra guages etc, but they are just not connected up?
Thanks for your help, it really is appreciated - M.Pritchard.

Whilst logic would suggest that the wiring looms would be common to both body styles, a check of the parts book shows that Rover had main looms with different part numbers for saloons and coupes, up to B suffix, up to C suffix and thiefproof coil variants!
The body harness is also shown with different part numbers for saloon or coupe.
I would suggest that a coupe loom could be used in a saloon, but not vice versa. The saloon looms would probably not have the additional wires for the extra guage sensors, under bonnet lamps, and rear cigar lighter.

Hhmmm, as i had feared, it seems like i'm gonna have to pass on this item... unfortunate as i am just beginning to map my old loom in order to make a new one. Probably a good thing in the long run as i intend to use LED's in the dash etc instead of bulbs and a modern fuse box etc. The old cotton braid wiring is a bit obsolete now also, the new stuff has the cotton over the top of the plastic insulation - much better.

If you are not buying it any chance of letting other saloon owners know?

Wiring harness can be made by Autosparks of Sandiacre 0115-949-7211 or check out their website (search for Autosparks).

They were model & year specific looms but all can be easily modified to suit the particular car.
You are quite right getting rid if the the fabric insulated stuff as it becomes a fire hazard when it starts to crack & fray
Some of the cabling is really heavy and the modern lightweight high current stuff willl be more suitable.
Do not forget to renew the main light switch and wire via a relay
