Morning all
Can anyone recommend an auto-electrician in Kent or Sussex who understands P5's?
The overdrive on my 3L Mark 11c has packed up (it no longer cuts in or out) and finding the reason has defeated the guy who services the car. The car has been rewired and the overdrive did work when I bought it. Now, there is apparently power on the output side of the column switch, but not to the overdrive unit.
Any recommendations for an electrican would be gratefully received.
Thanks

Must be a break in the wire somewhere then. I live in Tonbridge and Alba Transport Services in Hildenborough sorted out the problem I had with a corroded head last year. They are all enthusiasts ;D and have a very well equipped workshop.

I had the same problem on my 1966 Mk IIC 3-litre coupe and finally traced it to a bad isolator switch. This switch is located under the intake manifold and is activated by a cam that rotates with the accelerator linkage to cut power off to the OD unit at low engine speed. The cam pushes in a pin on the switch at low throttle. Easy to check this by unplugging the two wires to the switch and connecting them together with a jumper wire. If it now works then the switch is bad. I left mine permanently bypassed. Let me know if this helps. Ken

Thanks for the responses guys.
In fact I found someone a few weeks ago who's fixed it but I haven't yet had the chance to ask him exactly what it was. I'll post the answer here when I get it.
The electrician who fixed it is based in Crowborough, East Sussex and I'll post some info about him later in the recommendations part of the website. He's done some good work to the car for me in the last couple of weeks and is heavily into servicing and restoration of classics.
Thanks again and Happy New Year.
