Hi All,
As I am very new to the P5 but very old to old cars, I know its easier to ask people who have been there and done that.
The brake lights were working fine but the orange brake warning/handbrake light flickers on and off and the brake light isnt working no matter how hard I press the pedal.
Where is the switch? I had a quick fumble around down at the pedal assembly but couldnt see anything except a spring and a rubber stopper (which was loose so I tightened it while there!)
If anyone could point me in the right direction that would be great.
All other lights/blinkers/tail lights work.

Assuming you have a 3 litre - the brake light switch is hydraulic and is found in T peice just under the hanbrake pulley in the engine compartment. They fail completely nad you must ensure you get the right type. Wadhams stick them but some have taper threads and others rely on a coper sealing washer. It should be obvious which one it is.
Its best to pull off the Lucar terminlas and join togther, switch on ignition and brake lights should light up. If they do not you have awiring/earthing/bulb fault
The flashing warning light points to low fl;uid or more likely the sticking of the cork float in the fluid reservoir

Yes, it is the 3l sorry.
So far the old girl has been a dream. I just use it to pot around in for now. It gets a little noisy (a little pinging) over 55mph but I am unsure if that is due to timing or that is a Rover thing.
It doesnt go on highways so its no real bother really.
Just need to sort out the rear main leak and I am laughing.

No pinging - these are exceptionally smooth & quiet cars - more so than the V8's. The ignition timing/dwell must be checked without delay to avoid holed pistons. The leak is is more difficult

Hi,
I took it out on the highway and it wasnt pinging as I first thought. Over 60 mph it sounds a little like a diesel as if not enough oil is getting to the head.
Not sure what it is but if I put my foot down it goes away.
I had a look at the t piece last night. I cleaned it up and still nothing so I will order a new one and see how I go. I only let a little air in the system so will have to bleed this weekend.

The rocker shaft feed could be blocked. Its easy to check with engine idling. Or blowing exhaust?. The manifold readily distorts especially if fixings fitted back to front or overtightened. The curved side faces manifold flange to allow sideways expansion. Silver side of gasket goes to manifold
Loose tappets or worn/cam rollers
