Could anybody give me some guidance on a couple of future projects. As per usual we are all looking to improve our cars , so i am looking to install a rev counter and oil pressure guage on my saloon. The rev counter is to aid the setting up of the tick over as this seems to be vital in whether the auto box clunks into action or changes smoothly at take off or not. The addition of the oil pressure guage i would say is a useful aid to keep an eye on the engine performance. Anyway , what i need to know as i have never fitted these items to a car before is how are they fitted and has anybody any recommendations as to guages to use and where best to site them and purchase them. A dash mounted rev counter is not accurate enough at low revs to use to set the idle. My timing light, dwell meter also has a rev counter that is accurate at low revs to set idle revs. I also wanted a rev counter and oil gauge so bought a set of coupe gauges and have fitted these. Looks more authentic than an after market gauge. But the impulse sending rev counter is also not very accurate and I am having it converted to current sensing. Will go to instrument guy on Friday and have back next week. I had fitted a cheep aftermarket current sensing rev counter in order to check gearbox change revs under kick down and when pushing car hard and also because I like a rev gauge almost any gauge will do choose one you like the styling off. I fitted Coupe instruments to my sallon ages ago. The tacho fits in place of the multi guage set and it is easy to fit the two pods under the binical?. I used theaded rod and nuts as I couldn't find bolts long enough. You will need a sender and the casting into which it screws from a coupe as it differs from the salloon. The tacho feed is in series ... i.e from the ign switch via tacho to coil. If you have a mark 3 you will need a negitive earth (it took me ten years to find one) or get your local electronics wizz to alter a positive version the wiring internally. Keep an eye on Ebay or check with David Green to see what he has available. Hope this helps Rgds
